Andrea Williams - Ballet & Pointe

June 17-21

When Andrea was 15, she left her home in Midland, Texas to attend the National Academy of Arts in Champaign, Illinois and pursue her dream of becoming a professional dancer.  Andrea lived that dream dancing professionally for 25 years.  She danced for 13 years as a ballerina with Nevada Dance Theatre and Ballet Austin.  After retiring from ballet, she danced jazz and tap for 4 years with Tapestry Dance Company and modern for 5 with Kathy Dunn Hammrick Dance Company.  During and in between which Andrea has freelanced as a dancer and an independent choreographer and has been invited to perform in many dance festivals in the Austin area.  Her choreography has been well received on professional stages as well as at student competitions; always striking an emotional chord in her audiences through pure joy and musicality.  Although she retired from the stage in 2015, she continues to share her love and passion for this marvelous artform as a teacher, rehearsal director, coach and choreographer.

As a teacher, Andrea's philosophy is that with proper strength and body alignment, a dancer can have effortless power and ultimately tons of fun dancing.  One of her greatest talents as an instructor is her ability to spot the weaknesses or alignment issues in each dancer and offer corrections tailored to each dancer's specific needs.  Andrea also has a vast understanding of body mechanics to promote the best coordination and ease of movement.    Her motto is, “I’m not going to teach you to have great technique, I’m going to teach you to use great technique.”

Louie Williams - House

June 17-21

Louie Williams was born and raised in Austin Texas. He started his dance training at fourteen years old where he received experience in technique at Dance Institute, and was coached by his director Linda Holland and his mother, Andrea Williams. His remaining years of high school from 2016-2020 were spent at competitions and conventions, training to eventually join the USC Kaufman School of Dance’s class of 2024. There he has worked in process with artists such as Desmond Richardson, Dwight Rhoden, William Forsythe, Doug Varone, Hope Boykin, Saleemah E Knight, and Micaela Taylor. Louie has teaching experience at Dance Institute as well as in the Kaufman Connections program, which assists public schools in the LA area by teaching hip hop and social dance practices.

House is a style of footwork and rhythm that developed in the late 1900s that encompasses all varieties of movement but especially the African diaspora. It gets its title from the Warehouse, the original dance club in Chicago where house emerged. House is a phenomenally fun way to express oneself through the music, and has a vast range for creative freedom.
